A COUNCILLOR has offered to step forward to continue his wife's duties as Denbighshire County Council’s Lead Member for Local Development and Planning.
It comes after the sad passing of Councillor Win Mullen-James in May.
After a 30-year career as a Social Worker, specialising in Mental Health and Childcare, Councillor Alan James was elected to Rhyl Town Council in 2012.
In October of 2016, Councillor James was elected to County Council at a bi-election. Councillor James also served as Mayor of Rhyl for the 2017/18 term.
Councillor James served as chair of Denbighshire County Council for the 2020/21 term.
Councillor James currently sits as Vice Chair of Planning, and has been on the Planning Committee for a number of years.
He also sits on the Strategic Planning Group, along with a number of other Committees.
Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Economic Growth & Tackling Deprivation said: “Councillor Alan James is an experienced and respected councillor and has a wealth of knowledge on planning issues.
He is hard working and I, and the rest of Cabinet, are looking forward to working with him.”
Cllr James wife, Win Mullen-James, who had served as mayor of Rhyl twice, died in hospital on Wednesday, May 1.
She was elected to represent Rhyl South-East Ward from May 2012 until May 2017.
In May of 2022, Cllr Mullen-James was elected to represent the Trellewelyn Ward in Rhyl and was the Lead Member for Local Development and Planning.
She was described as a valued member of Denbighshire County Council's Cabinet.
She also sat on the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Joint Committee and the Licensing Committee.
