A MAN has been jailed after wounding his victim in the street with a large hunting knife.

Tyrone Hughes, of HMP Berwyn, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates Court for sentence on Thursday morning.

The 26-year-old had previously admitted offences of wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

Richard Edwards, prosecuting, told the court that on August 19, 2022, a man named Iulian Jitea had been out in Llangollen with a friend.

They were joined at the Bull Inn pub in Castle Street by Hughes.

Mr Edwards said the three men returned to the home of the victim's friend shortly before midnight.

Once there, Hughes laid out lines of cocaine on the kitchen table and produced a large hunting knife with a six to eight inch blade from his waistband.

After putting his finger in the cocaine and licking it, Mr Jitea left the property.

As he walked along Regent Street in Llangollen, a car approached from behind.

It was his friend, with Hughes in the passenger seat.

Mr Jitea ran into a churchyard car park when the vehicle pulled over and Hughes got out, approaching with one arm over his head.

The victim ran, and didn't recall seeing the knife, but felt a strike to the upper right side of his back.

He immediately feared he'd been stabbed and when he got home his family called an ambulance.

The victim was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where it was found he had a wound to the upper right back of the chest.

The knife had gone through the muscle in the back wall and came close to the space between two ribs, the court heard.

It required seven stitches to close.

The court heard Hughes had 33 previous offences from 19 convictions, including conspiracy to commit GBH, possession of a blade, affray, battery and numerous others.

Duncan Bould, defending, told the court: "There is now a pre-sentence report and albeit there is a record of violence, there are other matters raised in the report.

"He has acknowledged his behaviour in this instance was not justified and he has a motivation to address his offending.

"He feels ashamed of his behaviour.

"He has found himself a job inside the prison working as a cleaner in the servery.

"But as recently as two weeks ago, he was stabbed in the neck and head with a makeshift weapon."

Judge Nicola Saffman told the defendant: "You took exception and pursued [Mr Jitea] and struck him with the blade of a large hunting knife.

"That resulted in a wound, but thankfully no long-standing difficulties.

"Whilst you're 26, you are clearly an immature man."

The Judge jailed Hughes for a total of three years and seven months.
