Businesses are being warned that landline phones will soon be a thing of the past.

CATalyst Systems, an IT firm based in Denbigh and Chester, has said that many organisations are unaware of the changes coming in 2027.

The company is working with customers across North Wales and the North West to prepare them for The Big Switch Off.

This will see BT's Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) phased out and replaced with newer technology, including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

The company owner Rory McGough said: "This is happening and it’s happening soon - even with the deadline being moved to 2027 - but the majority of businesses are completely unaware of it."

He has worked in the sector for more than three decades and is keen to support clients as they make the transition.

He said: "For long-standing public and private sector organisations where a landline is key, those that are physically on the premises, this will have a major impact as the traditional analogue systems are being completely scrapped in favour of VoIP and internet-based platforms."

Mr McGough, who has a background in IT for the Ministry of Agriculture, started CATalyst Systems at the turn of the century.

Now, as a silver partner of global service provider 3CX, the company has grown from strength to strength.

He said: "We are effectively our clients’ IT department, we are part of the team, and that’s very important to us and to them.

"We have grown together and remained at the cutting edge of advances in technology and sustainability – including our revamped website and journey to becoming net zero - which is vital for CATalyst and its customers."

He encourages businesses to get in touch with CATalyst Systems for help, advice, and guidance on the changes.
