A PHOTO has been shared of the Ruthin Show which was held 100 years ago.
Doug Jones sent the above picture to the Free Press, which shows a “remote relative” of his, John Williams, who won the cup for the “open collection” at the 1924 show outright.
John, Doug said, also won the same competition in 1922 and 1923.
Doug said: “I understand that John Williams was brother-in-law to my grandmother, Carrie Edwards.
“I believe that John Williams’ wife, Edith, was a sister to Carrie – and that both were daughters of a brick-burner from Ruabon.

“I have no direct connection with the area at all as, once married, my grandmother (and my parents) lived in Cheshire, and I have been living in Hampshire since 1980.
“But, having discovered this old photograph amongst my late father’s effects, I have recently spoken with a descendant of the Williams family in Ruthin, who has kindly helped me to piece this family jigsaw together.”
The annual Ruthin Flower Show enjoyed a successful return for 2024 on Saturday, August 17, meanwhile.
Held at the Ruthin Farmer’s Auction, Parc Glasdir, the family-friendly event gave gardeners the chance to show off their produce.
There were also dozens of displays, including an array of classic cars for people to peruse.
Gates opened at 11am, after which there were horse and dog shows, axemen, birds of prey, ukelele performances, a demonstration by a canine display team, fancy dress, and a parade of classic vehicles.
The day ended with a presentation of cups and prize money gifted to the winners of various competitions which were held at the event.
The earliest records of the Ruthin Flower Show date back to 1899, with many more competitions having been added since then.
