Two new junior football pitches have been installed in Denbigh.

Denbighshire County Council have completed the work at Cae Hywel field in Upper Denbigh.

The project received £5,977.44 from the Commuted Sums Grant Funding (CSGF), specifically earmarked for enhancing open spaces and play areas.

The field, a long-standing recreational area for the community, includes a children's play area with a zip wire, a basketball hoop, and a large grassed area.

After consultation with residents, Denbighshire staff and local councillors identified the need for a dedicated space for children to play football and exercise.

This led to a collaborative project involving the Denbighshire County Council Street Scene team, local councillors, and civil engineering company Jones Bros.

Together, they provided two Welsh Football Association standard football pitches with goalposts.

Jones Bros, which operates nationally across the UK, also donated and installed a wheelchair-accessible picnic table at the site.

Patrick Williams, project coordinator for Jones Bros, said: "We as a Denbighshire-based company are delighted to contribute to the local community and feel this will provide a safe space for people to socialise and be active."

The addition of the football pitches and picnic table transforms the previously open grassed area into a multi-use facility for the community.

Councillor Barry Mellor, lead member for environment and transport, said: "This is a great example of what working collaboratively with local councillors and having an open dialogue with the community can achieve.

"I would like to thank Jones Bros for their kind donation to ensure that the space is accessible to every member of the community.

"Projects such as these are essential to ensure that communities have access to a safe space to play and exercise."
