A TOTAL of six reports of drink-spiking have been made to North Wales Police in Denbigh, Ruthin, Corwen and Llangollen since the start of 2022, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed.
The Free Press asked the force to disclose the total number of drink-spiking incidents it has received in 2022, 2023 and in 2024 so far, as well as the outcomes of these reports.
Of these six reports, none have resulted in a successful prosecution.

Drink-spiking is when someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person's drink without their consent or knowledge.
Below, you can find a breakdown of the results for Denbigh, Ruthin and Llangollen (no other Denbighshire towns in the Free Press’ patch had had any incidents reported):
Denbigh – 1 result
2022 – 1 result
The only report of drink-spiking in Denbigh, in 2022, was described as an “administering a substance with intent” incident.
But North Wales Police said the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender.
Ruthin – 3 results
2022 – 1 result
2024 – 2 results
All three reports of drink-spiking in Ruthin were described as “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy” incidents.
The two 2024 incidents remain under investigation, but for the 2022 case, North Wales Police said the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender.
Llangollen – 1 result
2023 – 1 result
The only report of drink-spiking in Llangollen, in 2023, was described as an “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy” incident.
But North Wales Police said the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender.
Corwen - 1 result
2022 - 1 result
The only report of drink-spiking in Corwen, in 2022, was described as an “administering poison with intent to injure or annoy” incident.
But North Wales Police said the victim declined, or was unable, to support action to identify the offender.
