A fiery fundraising challenge is returning to St Asaph this October.
The St Kentigern Hospice Fire Walk is back for its second year, set to take place on Friday, October 25, at R N Williams & Sons.
The event will offer refreshments and entertainment, adding to the thrill of the Halloween-themed festivities. The challenge involves walking barefoot over red-hot embers, reaching temperatures of around 800 degrees.
Cliff Mann, a highly experienced fire-walking instructor from Europe, will guide the fire walk, ensuring all participants receive full training. St Kentigern Hospice, located in St Asaph, provides free specialist palliative care services to adults throughout North East Wales.
In 2023, the hospice's annual operating costs surpassed £2.6 million, which breaks down to more than £7,977.60 each day. However, less than 30 per cent of this sum came from the Local Health Board, which meant the hospice could only be funded for 93 days a year.
Fundraising events like the fire walk are crucial for maintaining the hospice's services. Those aged 16 and above can participate, with parental consent required for those aged 16 to 18.
Registration starts at £25 and can be completed online at www.stkentigernhospice.org.uk or by contacting the fundraising team on 01745 536020.
Courtney Harris, events and community fundraiser, said: "Following the success of our 2023 Fire Walk which raised almost £8,000, we are thrilled to be bringing back this exciting event. Not for the faint hearted, this challenge is for anyone who wants to conquer their fears and accomplish something amazing before the year comes to an end.
"After all, if you can walk on fire, just imagine what else you can do! This event is great as a team and we’re encouraging friends, families and colleagues to come together and face this challenge united. We can’t wait to see you there!"
