An accountant shared his knowledge of the iconic duo Rodgers and Hammerstein with a Denbigh club.
Members of the Denbigh and District Probus Club enjoyed another gathering on Monday, October 7.
The speaker after lunch was Brian Lewis, who delivered a talk titled 'The Rodgers & Hammerstein Story'.
Mr Lewis, originally from Old Colwyn, started his career as an accountant and later became an internal auditor for a large retail organisation in London.
After getting married, he returned to North Wales with his wife, joining and later becoming a partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants until his retirement.
Mr Lewis's talk shed light on the lives and collaborations of Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, whose partnership produced timeless classics like Oklahoma!, Carousel, and South Pacific.
The audience was particularly intrigued by anecdotes related to Hammerstein's influence on the lyrics of Show Boat, and Rodgers' early collaborations with Larry Hart.
The talk also highlighted the personal touch of theatre, recalling how Mary Martin, who starred in the original South Pacific production, washed her hair eight times a week for three and a half years, living every moment of it.
The club warmly welcomes new members to their meetings.
