MEN'S Shed members in Denbigh are taking on a fundraising mountain trek - accompanied by their trusty barn owl!
Their goal is to help support Denbighshire Defibs, Denbigh Royal British Legion and to raise money for member Steve Boyes, who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
The Men's Shed at the Trefairian Club offers a place for men to meet up and enjoy social activities together. By combating loneliness and isolation, it is designed to help them talk and help support their mental health and wellbeing.
It does also welcome women once a week too, as we all sometimes need a little community.
Now they have decided to take on a trek up Moel Siabod on Monday, November 11 to raise money for these three important causes. Donations can be made via their gofund me page.
"We all need help and support sometimes and there are some amazing organisations out there who need help." said Denbigh Men's Shed trustee Sioned Garrod.
"Cathy Jones leads the volunteers who maintain the defibrillators around Denbigh but there are still lots of people who are nervous about using them. We want to raise money for Denbigh Defibs to help them maintain the machines and train more people to use them.
"We are also fundraising for the Denbigh Royal British Legion. My husband served 12 years in the army, sadly he is no longer with us. The Legion do amazing work supporting veterans and their families so we are supporting them too.
"Finally we have Steve. He is 50 and has been diagnosed with stage four cancer. We want to be able to donate some money to help him with his treatment.
"He is hoping to be well enough to join the trek, which will be wonderful."
He's not the only one hoping to take part. Trekker Mark Jackson plans to bring his barn owl along too.
"The guys all love it when he brings it along to the shed," said Sioned. "It's another little lever to encourage them to get talking and open up.
"If our community can help the wider community through this fundraiser it'll be fantastic."
