"Frequent and heavy snow" has been forecast for North Wales this week (November 18 to 24).

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most of North Wales including Wrexham, Flintshire, Denbighshire and Conwy due to snow and ice which will be in place from 7pm on Monday (November 18) to 10am on Tuesday (November 19).

The snow and ice associated with the weather warning is set to cause:

  • Power outages and disruptions to other services (including mobile phone coverage)
  • Travel disruptions including delayed and cancelled bus/train/plane services
  • Risk of injury from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Could cut off rural communities
  • Impassable pavements and cycle paths

The snow looks like it will be hanging around North Wales for a while, according to forecasts, with the heaviest falls due later in the week/into next weekend.

When will it snow in North Wales?

North Wales could see snow from as early as Monday evening, according to the Met Office weather warnings.

However the Met Office forecast for Wales said "frequent and heavy snow showers" are more likely to hit between Tuesday and Thursday (November 19 to 21).

The forecast for that period reads: "Turning much colder with a mixture of sunny spells and occasional wintry showers.

"Frequent and heavy snow showers are possible at times, mainly in the north. Frost and ice overnight."

It looks like the snow could be here to stay, according to the Met Office's UK long-range weather forecast (November 21 to 30).

The long-range forecast says: "Cold or very cold conditions are expected across most if not all parts of the UK early in this period, with wintry showers affecting in particular northern parts and exposed coastal districts, although it may well be largely sunny inland.

"Overnight frost will be widespread and occasionally strong winds will result in significant wind chill.

"However, there is an increasing chance through the first weekend and into the following week of more organised areas of rain, snow and strong winds affecting many areas, this probably also associated with milder temperatures, at least in the south.

"Later in the period, conditions remain uncertain, but it is most likely to remain mostly unsettled with further spells of rain and snow."
