The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of North Wales.

Flintshire, Wrexham and other areas in north Wales woke up to yet more snow on Wednesday (November 20) morning, as they did the day previous.

The snow and wintery conditions have caused disruptions over the past couple of days, including the closure of several schools in the area.

Now, the Met Office expects further disruption such as severe travel disruptions and power outage risks. Over 140 schools in Wales have closed, affecting areas like Wrexham, Powys, and Flintshire.

Met Office forecast for north Wales:

A fresh ice alert for north Wales, particularly Wrexham and Flintshire, has been issued by the Met Office.

With temperatures expected to tumble to -3C in places overnight, the forecaster is warning of a difficult start to Thursday morning on the region’s roads.

The yellow weather warning will be in place from 4pm on Wednesday, November 20. It will remain until 10am the following day.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong said: “With cold Arctic air firmly in place over the UK, continued winter hazards are likely through much of this week, with further updates to warnings likely in the coming days.

“The current focus for upcoming snow and ice risk is from later on Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday, with snow showers likely moving in off windward coasts in the north and east, as well as drifting into parts of Northern Ireland and Wales.

“In excess of 10cm of snow is possible over higher ground within the warning areas, with 1-2cm possibly settling at lower levels, which has the potential to lead to some travel disruption. Ice is an additional hazard and is likely to form quickly on untreated surfaces.”

Today:

A cold, crisp and icy start to the morning. Wintry showers in places, easing during the afternoon. Prolonged sunny spells in the east but feeling cold for all with a brisk northerly wind. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Dry throughout Wednesday evening as winds ease. Cloud building overnight with rain fringing Pembrokeshire towards dawn on Thursday. Chilly for all but frost most widespread in the east. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Thursday:

Cloudier than Wednesday with rain spreading into southern counties, perhaps turning to snow over hills, but staying dry in the north. Cold again with blustery winds along the south coast. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Frosty start to Friday with wintry showers easing and sunny spells emerging. Becoming wet and windy into the weekend, perhaps with hill snow for a time, but also turning milder.
