A Denbigh resident has raised £1,690 for charity Parkinson’s UK Cymru by holding a charity car wash.

Maldwyn Williams, 76, who lives with Parkinson’s, recently organised the fundraiser at his Denbigh-based business, Oshwash.

Parkinson’s is the fastest-growing progressive neurological condition in the world.

Around 153,000 people live with the condition in the UK, and that includes 8,300 people in Wales.

People with Parkinson's have reduced levels of dopamine in their brains because some of the nerve cells responsible for producing it are no longer functioning.

Parkinson's disease involves over 40 symptoms, including tremors, muscle stiffness, and anxiety.

Some are treatable, but the drugs can have serious side effects, and there is no cure yet.

Mr Williams said: "The generosity of people on the day was unbelievable.

"Many of those who donated have a friend or a family member who lives with Parkinson's, so I hope the money raised will make a difference to people living with the condition here in Denbigh and across Wales.

"It was a very uplifting day for us all."

Keri McKie, Wales community fundraiser at Parkinson’s UK Cymru, added: "We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure for Parkinson’s and current treatments are not good enough.

"We’re therefore incredibly grateful that Maldwyn organised this charity car wash with the funds going to support vital research and community initiatives.

"Without the generosity of people like Maldwyn, our work would not be possible."
