Plans for six new affordable homes have been unveiled in a Denbighshire village.

Elfyn Jones has applied to Denbighshire’s planning department, seeking permission to build six social housing dwellings on land at Penbryn Llan, Llanrhaeadr, Denbigh.

Mr Jones wants to build on the 0.5-hectare section of land situated to the north-east of the cenotaph on the north side of the village.

The green space is immediately east of the A525 with the Llanrhaeadr road to the west and residential properties to the south.

The developer says ecologists have carried out wildlife survey checks, assessing the area in case of it being a habitat for protected species, checking for badgers, bats, breeding birds, great crested newt, and reptiles.

The developer claims hedgerows were also checked.

Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch Community Council have asked for a housing needs survey to work with the community to identify what is needed.

The survey shows that, according to a 2021 census, the population of the village is around 1,000, with 440 homes, two local schools, a village shop and a cafe, a restaurant, and bus services regularly running to Denbigh and Ruthin.

The planning application will likely be debated at a future Denbighshire County Council planning committee meeting at the council’s Ruthin HQ.
