Three members of Denbigh Golf Club who are still striding the fairways who celebrated their 80th birthdays this year were John Dryhurst Roberts, Eric Glyn Howells and Edward Llewelyn Davies.
All have been long standing members of the club and have regularly supported the club throughout the years, Eric joined the club in 1968, John in 1970 and Llew in 1980.
They all knew each other through sport – Eric and John playing Rugby for Denbigh and the North Wales Hospital respectively and Llew playing football locally.
John is Nantglyn, working in farming and animal grading.
Llew is originally from Llandyrnog and settled in Denbigh. He is a familiar face from working as a postman.
Eric hails from Cwmllynfell, Swansea Valley.
He settled in Denbigh and worked as a schoolteacher in Abergele.
Having played together and competed against each other at different times, they now strive to continue to be competitive and challenge the ageing process.
Llew seems to cope the best with a score of 46 pts this week in the Christmas competition.
