SIX members of Denbigh Harriers joined 182 other runners in the second fell race in the ever-popular Joe Brown Tuesday Evening Fell Series.
The race was short (3 miles /4.8 km with 597ft/ 182m of ascent) but fast, running into the setting sun before turning up towards the summit of Mynydd y Cilgwyn near Caernarfon, descending quickly down to a track before ascending the summit for the second time, then descending fast over heather and muddy sheeptracks to the finish in Y Fron.
Joanne Henderson was the overall first female to finish and was also first F40. Emma Collins smashed the previous F60 record by 2 minutes. 13th Tony Wood 17 mins 46 secs. 17th Dafydd Evans 18 mins 20 secs25th Joanne Henderson 18 mins 47 secs98th Emma Collins 23 mins 20 secs118th Peter Lester-Owen 24 mins 37 secs168th Menai Baugh 28 mins 39 ses.
Six members also ran the Manchester Marathon on Sunday.
After weeks of fantastic group training runs in preparation for this supprisingly undulating route the finish line was accomplished! Steve Gadd, making a briliant return from injuries, finished in an impressive 03:09:33. Abdul Pasha, running his first marathon, finished in an amazing 03:33:00. Also marathon first timers were Chris Evans 04:28:44, Alison Lester-Owen 04:54:24 and Brychan ap Geraint 04:54:52, all finishing strongly with Peter Lester-Owen running with Alison finishing in 04:54:26.
Five Denbigh Harriers ran the popular Llangollen Fell Race on Sunday which was a counter this year in the North Wales WFRA Championships.
This year a ‘Short Course’ option was also introduced - a 10 mile version of the 17 mile ‘Long Course’ which starts at Dinas Bran Leisure Centre and heads up towards Castell Dinas Bran and onto the beautiful Eglwyseg and Ruabon mountain.
Running the Long Course Tony Wood was first Harrier to cross the line finishing 6th overall in a fantastic time of 02:13:46. Following closely in 12th overall and 1st Female position was Joanne Henderson with a storming run, setting a new women’s course record of 02:20:25! Mel Morris also bravely took on the full distance, on the back of long training runs for an upcomming Ultra, finishing in 03:01:04.
On the Short Course Emma Collins had a brilliant run finishing first F60 in 01:40:55, with Menai Baugh following strongly in 02:04:17. Great performances!
Caroline James ran the Run Wales Pier2Pier race on Sunday. Caroline clocked a great time of 02:20:30.
