Travel restrictions are slowly easing around the world, with the USA reopening their borders to fully vaccinated Brits in November.

The question of where UK tourists could potentially visit in the US will undoubtedly come up, with there being so many places to choose.

ParkSleepFly, the holiday comparison site, have worked out the most affordable and most expensive destinations in the US to help you decide.

They conducted research to come to a vacation affordability score out of 10, based on a number of factors such as the nightly hotel price (weekend), the cost of a one-way local transport ticket and the cost of a 1km fare in a taxi.

Additionally, the cost of a restaurant meal, wine and beer were also included.

Oklahoma City was found to be the most affordable location for a US city break, earning a score of 8.58 out of 10.

The city was the cheapest for half of the factors analysed, costing just over £2 for a beer, £8.40 for a meal in a restaurant, and £77 for a night in a hotel when converted to UK currency.

Activities tourists could complete there include visiting the National Cowboy & Western Heritage museum as well as trying a hand at roping and herding cattle.

Indianapolis, Indiana and Tucson, Arizona came second and third respectively.

On the other end of the scale, New York was ranked as the most expensive US destination, beating out San Francisco, Boston and Brooklyn for the top spot.

New York City was the most expensive city for four of the six categories including a beer (£5.70), bottle of wine (£10.95), restaurant meal (£14.60), and hotel stay (£225.57).

How to make the most out of your trip to the USA

Martin Jones, CEO at ParkSleepFly said: “Our study revealed Oklahoma City to be the top place to go for tourists seeking the most bang for their buck, with costs as little as just $3 for a beer, $11.50 for a restaurant meal and $106 for a night in a hotel!

“This means Oklahoma City tourists could extend their vacations almost three times longer than if visiting New York for exactly the same price.

“On the other hand, some of the most popular tourist destinations in the USA, such as New York and San Francisco, are unsurprisingly the most expensive destinations to stay.

“However, if you do have an upcoming trip planned, there are a number of ways you can cut costs during your stay,” he added.

Jones mentioned a number of tips to make the most of your money, including choosing alternative accommodation such as Airbnb’s and timeshares instead of hotels.

Choosing to walk or take public transport around your destination instead of taxis would also be of benefit, as well as visiting free attractions.
