Playing for the first time in their new kit, Clwb Hoci Rhuthin beat Llanfair Caereinion 5-2 last Saturday.
Excellent play leading to several chances but either the final ball let them down or the opposition goalkeeper made some fantastic saves.
Ruthin kept plugging away and finally after an excellent through ball by Eleri Jones, Mali Thomas managed to deflect the ball goalwards, however another excellent save but this time Mali managed to slot the rebound past the keeper.
Almost from the restart some strong defending cleared the ball which led to an excellent run down the wing by Brooke Sherwood- Day followed by a perfectly weighted cross for Grace to sweep the ball in.
After Halftime 2-0 up Ruthin needed to keep up the pressure but Llanfair showed spirit to keep battling and managed to bring the score back to 2-1 to put Ruthin back under pressure.
Not to be defeated Ruthin continued to play some excellent passing hockey with all players showing composure on the ball and a willingness to work really hard for each other both in attack and in defence.
Not surprisingly Ruthin scored another three goals by Eleri Jones and Anna Roberts, all well worked with some crisp passing around the D.
Meanwhile, it was a very successful tournament last Sunday in Ruthin for the U12’s and U14’s.
Great attacking play with beautiful hockey especially when they were passing the ball from one end to the other and finishing with a goal!
Defence worked tirelessly throughout with some brilliant saves on the line! It was great to see everyone gain confidence during the day.
The U14’s were unbeaten and finished first.
