After two tough defeats on Saturday for the 1st and 2nd team against undefeated Bangor City, Clwb Hoci Rhuthun's first team were determined to get a good result in the cup game against Cardiff University 3 on Sunday.
In the wind and rain, the team played with confidence and determination.
It was an extremely competitive match with both teams wanting to get a good result.
Half time came and it was 0-0.
Ruthin were completely focused and fixed on winning and began the second half with plenty of energy and good possession of the ball. This was soon shown when the ball was hit into the D and Brooke Sherwood-Day managed to get the ball in the goal. This gave Ruthin more confidence.
Unfortunately, Cardiff were quick to equalise and full time came which was 1-1. As it was a cup game there had to be a winner, therefore it went to shuffles, keeper v player.
Harriet Jones saved all five and Leah Jones scored for Ruthin, meaning that Ruthin had won and were through to the next round.
A tough weekend but a great result in the end.
A club spokesperson said: "Huge well done to GK Harriet Jones for getting players player in both games over the weekend - she made some incredible saves in both games. Ruthin were very grateful to all the supporters who came as it makes such a difference to the teams performance when there’s a good crowd cheering!
"Thank you also to the umpires and to The Feathers.
"Ruthin look forward now to the quarter finals!"
