RETURNING to racing in style, Denbigh Harrier Shaun Hughes took part in an elite Welsh Athletics 5K event in Rhyl recently.
The race on June 5 took place on the Marsh Tracks and consisted of four laps of the cycle track. Shaun achieved an excellent personal best time of 16minutes and 27 seconds coming 15th in the very high quality field.
Meanwhile, six other Denbigh Harriers headed to Eryri to take on the Welsh 3000s Challenge.
Welsh 3000s are the 15 mountains with a height over 3,000 feet - geographically they fall within three ranges, and in order to complete the challenge you are required to have been at the top of all 15 summits within 24 hours, without using transport.
The route length is about 30 miles in total from starting to finish points.
Daniel Jones competed this unsupported with friends on Tuesday June 1 in under 14 hours, whilst Tony Wood, Huw Williams, Mel Morris, Alaw Medi Evans and Sioned Griffiths took part in OutFit’s Guided Challenge on Saturday, June 5. and finished in just over 17 hours.
Both parties summitted Crib Goch first and finished summiting Foel Fras. This is a challenge well worth undertaking - testing all abilities, but rewarding with an amazing sense of achievement on completion.
