THE Lakesiders could face top flight Danish side AGF Aarhus if they defeat Larne in the opening qualifier of the European Conference League.
Bala Town FC drew Northern Irish side Larne FC in the First Qualifying Round of the UEFA European Conference League. The home tie to be played at The New Saints’ Park Hall in Oswestry on July 8, with the second leg at Inver Park the following week.
If they are able to beat the NIFL Premiership team they will play AGF Aarhus in the Second Qualifying Round in late July.
The professional Danish club competes in the top division Danish Superliga and were one of the first clubs to compete in the European Cup in 1955, losing to eventual runners up Stade Reims of France.
A cohort of AGF past players have represented Denmark, including former Schalke 04 and Feyenoord striker Søren Larsen, the late Real Madrid player Henning Jensen and Hannover 69 defender Leon Andreasen.
AGF have faced Welsh opposition before, when they defeated Cardiff City in the 1988/89 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup over two legs with a 6-1 aggregate score.
The Lakesiders, along with Larne FC are placed in Group 5, with other teams including Santa Clara (Portugal), Hibernian (Scotland), Gent (Belgium) and F91 Dudelange (Luxembourg).
There will be 108 teams competing in the Second Qualifying Round of the Conference League, which takes place for the first time in the 2021/22 season. It forms the third tier of European club football, after the Champions League and the Europa League.
