CORWEN'S decent run in the Ardal North East League came to an end as they were edged out in a seven-goal thriller at Welshpool Town.

It was Corwen who ran out 5-3 winners in the meeting between the sides earlier in the season, however Welshpool would gain their revenge under the Friday night floodlights at the Maesydre Recreation Ground.

The visitors played up the slope in the first half and Welshpool's first chance came when Ryan Edwards forced Josh Williams into a diving save.

Williams was in action again towards the end of the half, tipping two efforts away from the goal.

If it's goals you wanted, the second half certainly entertained.

After Oliver Crimp and Kevin Day both had efforts, Corwen claimed the lead after an hour.

Welshpool responded and Ryan Knott levelled things up from the penalty spot three minutes later, before James Clewlow handed the hosts the lead after 67 minutes.

The excitement continued with Knott scoring his second to stretch his side's lead, however Corwen were right back in it via a brilliant free kick from Scott Evans.

Another Evans set piece soon after went narrowly over the bar and at the other end, Josh Williams pulled off a fantastic save.

Unfortunately for Corwen, from the resulting corner, Adam Knott lost his marker to head in Welshpool's fourth.

That wasn't quite the end of the drama and the gap between the sides was down to a solitary goal in the last minute.

Scott Evans set up a grandstand finish as he found the back of the net again from another brilliant free kick to make it 4-3.

Despite Corwen's best efforts, it was the hosts who were given the best opportunity to add to the scoring as they were awarded another penalty kick.

Ryan Knott took it, but he was denied by Josh Williams' brilliant save.
