TWO goals in the space of five second-half minutes consigned Bala Town to an opening weekend loss in the Cymru Premier League.
The Lakesiders headed south to tackle Penybont on sweltering Sunday and it was the hosts who ran out 2-0 winners to go joint-top of the standings.
There was a promising start from Penybont as Keyon Reffell's third minute effort struck the post.
It was tough going for both sides in the heat, with a drinks break coming midway through the first half.
Five minutes before the break, Bala players were calling for a penalty for a handball offence in the box, but these pleas were waved away.
Penybont took the lead on 58 minutes when Nathan Peate's attempted clearance hit the crossbar and went into his own net.
The hosts had some breathing space after 63 minutes as Rhys Kavanagh made it 2-0.
Penybont were down to 10 men following the dismissal of Sam Snaith 12 minutes from time, however the Lakesiders could not find a goal in the time that was left.
This Saturday, Bala host Haverfordwest County in their first home league match of the campaign.
