There was another chance soon after for Eddie Maurice-Jones' visitors as Simon Smith laid the ball off to Charlie Mann, whose shot went over the crossbar in the 16th minute.
Two minutes later and it was Bala who had the lead.
Lassana Mendes had the ball at the far post and he tapped in to make it 1-0.
Gresford looked to respond, with Paul Johnson playing Simon Smith through in the 23rd minute and his shot forcing a save from Lloyd.
The Lakesiders were able to double their advantage in the 28th minute.
Mendes delivered a great corner for Nathan Peate to head home powerfully.
Athletic targeted a bright start to the second period and when Charlie Mann ran into the box five minutes after the restart, he cut inside before sending a shot just over the crossbar.
Visiting number one Rhys Williams was called into action in the 61st minute, making two brilliant saves to deny Bala Town a third goal.
Colin Caton's hosts did soon manage to make it 3-0.
