DENBIGH Town started 2023 in excellent fashion with a 2-0 success at Llandudno Albion.

The match was Albion’s home Ardal North West League fixture, but with their home pitch unavailable for the foreseeable future, it was switched to Denbigh's Central Park on a wet January evening.

After the disappointing loss at Flint Mountain a week earlier, Town were determined to start brightly.

There were several early chances when they could have taken the lead.

Jake Walker had the first opportunity, but his header went just wide before a clumsy challenge led to Town being awarded a penalty on seven minutes.

Walker stepped up but his low shot went wide of the post as it remained goalless.

Still Town continued to pressure and with 10 minutes played, Nathan Brown slotted the ball past Lavender in Albion’s goal.

Denbigh thought they had the lead only for the assistant referee’s flag to be raised for offside and the goal was disallowed.

When Pritchard found Brown on 24 minutes with a deft pass, the latter was unlucky to see his shot go just over the bar.

The constant Denbigh pressure had to tell and Town thought they had broken the deadlock after half-an-hour, only for Walker’s shot on target to be ruled out for offside once again.

Soon afterwards and Albion mounted their first real attack of the game when Dave Maddock broke through the Denbigh defence.

He let fly a strong shot from 15 yards which Aaron Jones did well to save.

As the half reached its latter stages, Denbigh got the goal they so richly deserved.

Craig Pritchard found Brown, who was able to turn his man and fire home from 10 yards.

Town continued where they left off in the second half with Walker once again unlucky to see his shot from 12 yards go just over the bar after some great work from Paul Fleming.

With Pritchard tiring after his first game in a long time, the management team felt it was time for fresh legs with Jason Foulkes replacing him on the hour.

Shortly after and Denbigh had their second.

Great work by Ben Lockley down the right wing saw him cross into the box for Nathan Brown to shoot from close range.

Brown’s shot was blocked and the rebound fell for Sion Jones to blast into the net from 18 yards.

With the comfort of a two-goal cushion, it was time for a double substitution with Craig Rogers and Dan Clarke coming on for Harry Lockley and Jake Walker.

The change did not alter the flow of the game with Keiron Roberts going close with a long range effort which just shaved the crossbar.
