BALA Town's hopes of achieving a top-three Cymru Premier League finish have come to an end.
The Lakesiders have enjoyed great cup triumphs versus Connah's Quay Nomads this season, however it was Neil Gibson's side who claimed the league plaudits on this occasion with a 2-1 outcome at Maes Tegid.
This moved the Nomads to within a single point of achieving European qualification this season.
The first half saw an end-to-end encounter, with Jack Kenny having the first opportunity for Nomads, while a Lassana Mendes attempt at the other end was blocked by Ban Nash.
Aron Williams' header went inches past the post and Nomads eventually took the lead after 25 minutes.
John Disney's cross was met by Harry Franklin, who found the net with a powerful header.
Bala levelled things up within a minute.
Mendes delivered the ball into the box and George Newell was there to nod home from close range.
Nomads regained the lead three minutes prior to the interval.
Josh Williams’ inswinging corner found George Horan at the back post and his header went into the net via a deflection off Nathan Burke.
Ben Nash went close to extending Quay's lead in the second half, but his effort struck the woodwork.
At the other end, Bala had a gilt-edged chance to equalise for the second time of the evening.
Lassana Mendes’ floating cross into Antony Kay left the Bala defender with a free header from around eight yards out, but he could only put it wide of the target.
