Young swimmers from Denbigh Dragons Swimming Club have scooped numerous medals at their first meet of the season.

The club travelled to Llandudno on September 21 and 22 to take part in the Swim Conwy Invitational Meet.

Eight members competed, with four taking part in their first competitive meet.

Two of the members taking part for the first time brought back a couple of medals each – Max, 8, received gold for his 50m freestyle and bronze for 50m backstroke, while Eilidh, 8, won silver for 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.

There were further medals for two of the club's experienced swimmers – Elenid, 11, won a gold for 200IM, silver for her first time racing a 400m freestyle, as well as getting three bronzes for 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly, while Saoirse, 10, received two bronze medals for 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly, the latter being the first time she competed in this event.

The rest of the team consisted of Elsa, 9, Ava, 8, Cerys, 11, and Mared, 13.

The team managed a further 14 top 10 places.

Coach Adam said: "Unbelievable effort from the Dragons this weekend.

"The experienced swimmers and rookie competitors all put in a real shift and showed what they can do.

"So very proud of every one of you."

The club also expressed their delight at the reopening of Denbigh Leisure Centre, which had been closed for a couple of months.

They said it was "excellent" that the swimmers had excelled without their regular training facility.
